Recapping August

August was a bit of a whirlwind for our family. We returned from 6 weeks in Colorado where we got amazing training for our new position as Campus Director at KU and attended a 10 day conference for all US staff. While we were there we took advantage of the mountains and hiked as a family almost every second we had off.
After we got home and all the bags were unpacked and all the laundry was done we moved on, there was important business to conduct .We had 3 special birthdays to celebrate Brooke and Baya turned 6 and Aaron turned 3. They all had a blast and we are so grateful that the Lord gave
them to us.

Mid month we had our annual staff retreat. We as a staff team met and worked through a strategic plan for the upcoming school year. We had a great time being together and preparing for students to arrive and return.

The day our retreat ended Brooke and Baya had their very first day of school. They have started Kindergarden and are enjoying it. They are in separate classes; which we are all still adjusting to but overall they are very proud little school girls.

For Christmas Rebecca's parents took us, the kids and Tommy on a trip to Keystone, Colorado. We all had a blast. Brooke and Baya skied for the first time and they did a fantastic job and had a great time. Aaron enjoyed being in the snow and enjoying the outdoors, he is just like his daddy.

Brooke and Baya turn 4 years old and Aaron turns 1 year old this month. We celebrated their birthdays with a Pre-season KU Football/Cheerleader Party. They had a great time with all their cousins.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Ediso Island

While we were in South Carolina we had the opportunity to spend some time on Edisto Island. Ever since I (Rebecca) was young I have spent many days on this beach. It was so fun to be able to take the kids and play in the sand and the surf. Brooke, Baya and Aaron had a blast! Even though Brooke and Baya were born in Kansas they still have a lot of Carolina Girl in 'em.

Broken Collar Bone

The Burgess Family just returned home from a trip to South Carolina. While we were down there, I (Jeff) crashed my mountain bike. I shattered my collar bone and bruised my ribcage along with tearing all of the muscle and tissue in my left shoulder/arm/chest. Luckily, I'm right handed.
You'll notice in the 1st x-rays that the bone was broken into 3 pieces. The 3rd image is from a follow-up 17 days after the crash. As of today, it's been 26 days and I seem to be recovering at the expected rate, which happens to be really slow.

We have enjoyed the snow the last few weeks. Brooke and Baya made a perfect snowman, with the help of their Daddy, at their Papa and Gigi's house.

Aaron is doing well. He has already surpassed the 20lb mile stone and he isn't even 5 moths old yet. It has been fun for us to have a big baby, not to mention how fabulous it has been to just have one baby!
Here he is all clean and wearing the bathrobe that his Papa and Gigi gave to him for Christmas.

Holiday Fun

We had a great time with all the kids this Christmas season. Christmas lights in the city are so festive. One of the reasons we love Lawrence so much is because we have the luxury of a big city near by but are able to live the small town life.
We are at Crown Center in downtown Kansas City.

We took the girls ice skating at crown center. The girls are naturals at ice skating.
Nina and Grandaddy were trying to keep Aaron warm while we were all on the ice. Uncle Tommy is behind the camera (thanks Tommy). Tommy helped us with the girls out on the ice.

Brooke and Baya had a gingerbread house contest. Daddy and Nina helped them out with the design work. Uncle Tommy was the judge and gave them each special consideration before announcing the winner, Jeff.

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving.We spent the day with Jeff's family in Kansas City. Jeff and I ran a 5k with family (Matt, Kari and Amy).

Pictured here is the kids table. Brooke and Baya love their cousins. Jeff and Aaron took a traditional Turkey Day Nap. We have so much to be thankful for. Brooke, Baya and Aaron are all doing great. The girls are thrilled with Christmas decorations and are eagerly learning what Christmas is and what it means.

Fall Festivities

Brooke and Baya are dressed as their favorite princesses, Cinderella and Snow White. Their Nina made their dresses for them. Aaron is the red hot chili pepper, the rather large chili pepper.

We visitied a nearby pumpkin patch mid October to pick the perfect pumpkin to display on our front patio.

We all have been having a blast with Aaron. He is just a joy. He is growing so fast, I can hardly believe it. Brooke and Baya have been great helpers. This is a picture of Brooke holding Aaron, both girls love on him constantly.

Aaron Matthew has arrived!

We are thrilled to announce that Aaron Matthew was born on Thursday August 17th at 6:22pm. He weighed 9lbs 2oz and was 20inches long. The labor and delivery went very well. Aaron is healthy and is doing great. Rebecca is also doing well. Brooke and Baya are enjoying being big sisters and can't seem to stop kissing their baby brother. Jeff, of course, is a very proud Daddy. Thank you to everyone who prayed for our family and for this little one.

Students Are Arriving

This time of year is always exciting for us. The students are arriving on campus. The energy around Lawrence is contagious. We are eager to see what the Lord has in store for these students as this fall semester begins. Pleease pray for these students and for us as we minister to them.

The girls turned 3 on August 6th. Friends and family came to our home to help celebrate. Brooke and Baya had a blast playing with their cousins and friends. It was fun to see the girls' anticipate and enjoy their party. We praise God for these sweet girls. They have been a joy these past 3 years and we are looking forward to the ones to come.
Now that the birthday and party are behind us, we are eagerly awaiting the birth of baby boy Burgess. We have two weeks until his due date, however we are all so eager to meet him we can barely wait. We will be sure to update you with details and photos when he arrives.

Summer Project in Santiago, Chile

As many of you know Jeff lead the Santiago, Chile summer project this summer. The project consisted of 5 staff and 12 students. The trip was a huge success, the US students grew in their faith as they saw God work in difficult circumstances and saw God use their gifts and talents to reach the students of Santiago, Chile. The Chilean students that are invovled in the ministry there were very encouraged by the staff and students being there. Our stuents met many new students and saw several come to know the Lord for the first time. Pictured above is a photo of a few Chilean students that were befriended by the project. This trip grew Jeff's heart even more for Chileans and their country.
Jeff also got to take a day off and hike up into the Andes with a few other staff men.

We are due to have a new addition to the Burgess family August 20th. We are all thrilled to welcome a baby boy into our home. We will be sure to post details and pictures as soon as he arrives.

In July we all spent a week in South Carolina with my (rebecca's) family.

We spent a weekend in Charleston and Isle of Palms with my parents and it was so fun for us and the girls. We ate seafood, swam in the ocean, walked on the beach and toured Fort Sumter. The girls especially loved the beach and ocean waves. They built sandcastles and swam like little fish.
